Department of Veterinary Microbiology

The Department of Veterinary Microbiology is an integral component of veterinary education, dedicated to the study of microorganisms responsible for animal diseases and their diagnosis, prevention, and control. The department provides comprehensive training in bacteriology, virology, mycology, immunology and molecular diagnostics, enabling students to acquire the knowledge and laboratory skills essential for disease surveillance, accurate diagnosis, research, and livestock health management.

The department is equipped with well-established undergraduate microbiology laboratories featuring compound microscopes, LCD projection systems, and digital teaching aids for effective practical learning. Modern bacteriology and virology laboratories support microbial isolation, identification, culture, staining, antimicrobial sensitivity testing, and serological investigations. The immunology and molecular diagnostic facilities provide infrastructure for ELISA, PCR, and other advanced diagnostic techniques. Research laboratories are equipped with biosafety cabinets, incubators, autoclaves, hot air ovens, refrigerated centrifuges, spectrophotometers, colony counters, water purification systems, and cold storage facilities. A well maintained with preserved microbial cultures, charts, and digital learning resources further strengthens competency-based education, diagnostic proficiency, and research excellence in veterinary microbiology.
